This week, we’re exploring how to create and use reference counters in Marad. Learn how this function saves you time, administrative work, and reduces human errors.

What are equipment counters?

An equipment counter is used to predict maintenance due dates. An increase of the counter values, for example the main engine, decreases the ‘due in’ values of jobs.

The PMS relies on the equipment counters to accurately predict when a job should be executed.

So what’s a reference counter?

Reference counters save you time and administration because they’re linked to equipment. For example:

  • The main engine is the reference counter
  • The gearbox and reduction gear are linked

Therefore, increasing the counter value of the main engine also increases the counter values of both the gearbox and the reduction gear.

How to create a reference counter

Go to the maintenance component and set the ‘Reference counter’ field to your preferred counter.

The gearbox is now linked to the main engine.

Benefits of reference counters

You should use reference counters because:

  • They save time and administration
  • They reduce human input errors
  • They make your counter list more intuitive
  • They bundle relevant equipment
